5 minute fridays Sep 09, 2022

Hello friend,

I will shout this from the rooftops until I can't speak anymore...

I love podcasting.

Aside from going out and meeting people, it's one of the best avenues to learn, educate & create relationships with people much smarter than I.

The other day I had a call with Dr. Mark Burhenne who is the Michael Jordan of functional dentistry. We chatted about dental health, homeschooling, and our journey into social media.

..And this was just an intro call. The real interview is in October.

He asked me why I wanted to interview him and I said that I wanted to share his knowledge with my audience. Also, without sounding like I was sucking up, I told him I wanted to learn at the feet of a wise man.

It reminded me of a podcast I did with my friend and super entrepreneur dad Chris Lopez. He's the owner of kettlebell.com and an OG of the online fitness world.

In this podcast, we didn't talk much about fitness but about parenting. He & his wife started homeschooling their 5 children 21 years ago.

So I thought it would be a great way to reconnect while asking questions about how to be a great parent while owning a successful business as well as the ins and outs of homeschooling.

Check that podcast out on iTunes here or on Spotify here.

If there's one thing to know about me it's that believe in being great at all things.

That means owning a business you love, making a lot of money, and being in shape while having a great relationship with your kids.

I believe you can have it all and most people create glass ceilings because they believe everything is a trade-off.

You can have it all my friend. Start believing this.

1 Thing I've Learned

1. Dub Step and Mosquitoes

The song "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" by the artist Skrillex was observed as a mosquito repellent due to its low-frequency vibrations.

The scientists also found that mosquitoes exposed to the song had sex "far less often" than other mosquitos without music.

3 Ways to Become a Better Human Being

1. Time-efficient ways to get strong & build muscle.

If you're pressed for time one of the best ways to build muscle is with supersets and tri-sets. These cut your training time by 25-50% and are on the intense side.

A superset is 2 non competing exercises done without rest.

Example: 8 reps of a squat followed by 8 reps of an incline bench press.

A tri-set is 3 non competing exercises done without rest.

Example: 8 reps of a squat followed by 8 reps of an incline bench press followed by a mountain climber.

There are many ways to do this and we've been employing it with great success with our clients. Try it out.

2. Brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand.

This stimulates areas of the brain known for learning. It also helps you become more ambidextrous. You're going to brush your teeth anyway so why not use it to make you slightly better?

3. Non sleep deep rest (NSDR)

NSDR is a form of self-hypnosis. It helps you induce a state of calm and direct your focus to something.

It can help with sleep, stress, anxiety, relaxation, and even learning.

I use an app called Reverie for quick 1-5 minute breaks. You can also find free ones on YouTube.

1 Quote to Finish Your Week Strong

"There is no guarantee, no ultimate formula for success. However, a resolute and resourceful leader understands that there are a multitude of means to increase the probability of success.

And that’s what it all comes down to, namely, intelligently and relentlessly seeking solutions that will increase your chance of prevailing in a competitive environment. When you do that, the score will take care of itself."

- Bill Walsh from "The Score Takes Care Of Itself"
